Apricot-Apple Cider

Makes 13 servings (2-1/2 quarts)

This comforting fall drink is more delicious if added with dried apricots. This hot drink is also perfect to sip on cool nights, just add cinnamon, cranberries, allspice and cloves.

Here's what you need:

  • 8 cups unsweetened apple juice
  • 1 can (12 ounces) ginger ale
  • 1/2 cup dried apricots, halved
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries
  • 2 cinnamon sticks (3 inches)
  • 1 tablespoon whole allspice
  • 1 tablespoon whole cloves

Here's how to mix it:

  1. In a 5-qt. slow cooker, combine apple juice and ginger ale.
  2. Place the apricots, cranberries, cinnamon sticks, allspice and cloves on a double thickness of cheesecloth; bring up corners of cloth and tie with string to form a bag.
  3. Place in slow cooker; cover.
  4. Cook on high until heated through, 3-4 hours. Discard spice bag.

This wonderfully tangy punch is simpler to stir together with just five basic ingredients.

Here's what you need:

  • 1 bottle (32 ounces) cranberry juice
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1 cup ruby red grapefruit juice
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 cups ginger ale, chilled

Optional ingredients: orange slices and fresh or frozen cranberries

Here's how to stir it together:

  1. In a pitcher, combine cranberry, orange and grapefruit juices and sugar.
  2. Refrigerate, covered, until chilled.
  3. Just before serving, stir in ginger ale.
  4. To serve, pour mixture over ice.

This drink is perfectly refreshing and beautiful sipper fit for any holiday gatherings. This drink is a mix of ginger ale, grapefruit juice and grapefruit vodka, just add a little simple syrup and wine for a little twist.

Here’s what you need:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 bottles (750 milliliters each) rose wine
  • 2 cups ruby red grapefruit juice
  • 1 can (12 ounces) ginger ale
  • 1 cup ruby red grapefruit-flavored vodka
  • Grapefruit slices
  • Coarse sea salt and grated grapefruit peel

Here's how to mix it:

  1. In a small saucepan, bring sugar and water to a boil.
  2. Reduce heat; simmer 10 minutes. Cool completely.
  3. Transfer to a large pitcher.
  4. Stir in the wine, juice, ginger ale, vodka and grapefruit slices.
  5. Refrigerate at least 2 hours.
  6. Using water, moisten the rims of sixteen wine glasses.
  7. Mix salt and grapefruit peel on a plate; hold each glass upside down and dip rim into salt mixture. Set aside.
  8. Discard remaining salt mixture on plate.
  9. Serve sangria in prepared glasses over ice.

Test Kitchen tips

This sangria isn't too sweet. If it's not sweet enough, you can mix in additional simple syrup.

Try to find salt that is as coarse as possible. Regular table salt can be very salty and overpower the flavor of the sangria.
