Holiday Drinks You can Enjoy by The Fireplace

They say the holidays is best spent by the fireplace but we say it is even better if you have a drink in hand. Here at Simply Charmed, we believe holiday-inspired drinks are the epitome of the season. To help make your celebrations even more memorable, we created a list of cocktail recipes that are best enjoyed by the fireplace.

Classic EggNog

Of course, we have to start off with a classic. The eggnog is a staple at everyone’s holiday feast. What is better than classic? An upgraded cocktail version. Enjoy this light and creamy drink by the fireplace or just about anywhere.

The classic eggnog

Here are the ingredients:

  • 4 large eggs, use the freshest ones you can get.
  • 2 C whole milk
  • 1 C heavy cream
  • ⅔ C of bourbon, brand of your choice
  • 1 tbsp of nutmeg, adjust according to your taste preference.
  • ½ cup of sugar and another 1 tbsp of sugar, separated.


Here is how you make it:

  1. Get two bowls and separate the egg yolks from the egg whites.
  2. Beat the egg yolks (you can use a hand mixer) until it is light and airy.
  3. Gradually add in ½ cup of sugar and continuously mix until the sugar crystals have dissolved.
  4. Gradually add in the milk, and cream. Continue mixing.
  5. Add in the bourbon and continue mixing. Once completely incorporated, set aside.
  6. Beat the egg whites until they form stiff peaks.
  7. Fold in 1 tbsp of sugar but be sure to fold carefully so as not to remove the air from the mixture.
  8. Pour the bourbon mixture in a glass and top it off with your frothy egg white cream.
  9. Dash a bit of nutmeg on top for added flavor. Enjoy!

 

Hot Toddy with a Pineapple Twist

If you are looking for something light, airy with just the right amount of spice, this hot toddy recipe is just what you need. This highly festive drink is best enjoyed in the company of those you love.

Here are the ingredients:

  • ½ C of Pineapple Concentrate
  • 1 ¾ C of water
  • 4 ounces of Coconut Milk
  • 1 tablespoon of Ground Cinnamon
  • ½ tablespoon of Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 4 ounces of Spiced Rum, any brand
  • 2 tablespoon of honey of Agave Nectar
  • 2-3 Cinnamon sticks

 

 

Here is how you make it:

  1. In a large saucepan, mix in the pineapple concentrate with water and rum.
  2. Simmer in low heat until the mixture is well incorporated.
  3. Once the initial mixture is well incorporated, throw in 2 cinnamon sticks, honey (or agave nectar) and ground cinnamon into the mix.
  4. Let it simmer for 3-5 minutes.
  5. Take it out of the stove and let it cool.
  6. Pour in the glass and add in coconut milk as desired. We suggest you mix the drink with cinnamon sticks for added flavor!

 

Espresso Martini

This recipe is for the coffee lovers out there. This delightfully easy and tasty drink will surely be a hit at any party. This is the perfect drink for celebrations with colleagues - be sure to make extra because we are certain people will be asking for more.

Here are the ingredients:

  • 1 shaker
  • 2 ounces of vodka
  • 1 ounce of any coffee based liqueur, preferably Kahlua
  • 1 ounce of espresso coffee, store bought is perfectly fine.
  • ½ ounce of simple syrup
  • Coffee beans for garnish

 

Here is how you make it:

  1. In a shaker, throw in all the liquid ingredients.
  2. Shake until well combined.
  3. Pour in a martini glass and garnish with coffee beans.
  4. This recipe makes for only 1 drink so be sure to adjust accordingly if you are making it in batches!

 

Mulled Wine

Nothing evokes the holiday vibe better than mulled wine. We have seen quite a few versions but swear by this one at our holiday feasts. This recipe uses the finest ingredients to give you just the right amount of sweetness to balance out the zing in every sip.

Here are the ingredients:

  • 150 grams of castor sugar
  • ½ cup of orange juice, freshly squeezed.
  • 750 milliliters of red wine, any brand.
  • Lemon peel
  • Orange peel
  • 1 star anise
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 5 pieces of cloves
  • 1 tablespoon of nutmeg
  • Pinch of grated ginger

Here is how you make it:

  1. In a large saucepan, combine all of the ingredients but leave out the red wine - we will add that later.
  2. Allow the mixture to simmer for at least 2 minutes.
  3. Add about ⅓ of the wine and continue simmering the mixture until it becomes thick and sticky.
  4. Allow the spices to permeate the mixture before adding the rest of your wine. Let it simmer for 5 more minutes.
  5. Do not ever bring the mixture to a boil as this can cause the alcohol to evaporate.
  6. Pour in a strainer before serving.Serve hot and use orange slices for garnish.
